No, your eyes aren’t deceiving you! There’s a new “car” that really can get 300MPG while seating two adults – it’s called the Aptera Typ-1. It’s really a motorcycle in disguise, but with additional safety and other features not usually found in 2-wheelers.
Based on our wheel layout and … weight, the Aptera Typ-1 is registered as a motorcycle.
It’s a slippery 3-wheeler that will be available in California next year and will (in theory) allow you to drive cross-country on one tank of gas! It comes in two configurations, an all-electric or plug-in hybrid. The all-electric version will only allow you to travel 120 miles on a single charge, and is slated to cost about $27,000. The plug-in hybrid could (on paper) allow you to drive over 1000 miles on a single tank of gas and will cost just under $30,000.
How to get one? If you live in California, you can reserve one at Aptera.com with a $500 deposit. Production starts later this year and you can expect your Aptera Typ-1 next year. Check the official website for updates.
